MALCOLM HARDEE AWARD NOMINEE 2012

'Great jokes, with an easy, confident manner. Cassidy seems to have a real commitment to making intelligent comedy shows about fun ideas'    Fringe Guru Aug 2012

Kate Byard5 stars Nathan Cassidy: I am Orig
Nathan Cassidy is an incredible human being. His film, I am Orig has this enlightening effect where you suddenly 'get it'. I left the screening feeling warm, generous and positive about the human race. It was funny and thought provoking at the same time and without a doubt the best thing I saw at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2012.

Since leaving Edinburgh I have had countless conversations with friends, family, strangers about the philosophy of I am Orig which usually end with me scribbling Nathan's details down on napkins, receipts or backs of hands so that they too can experience the film and the realisation of what it means to make a difference.

A truly unforgettable and life-affirming, well spent hour. Nathan Cassidy is a gem!

INTERVIEW

So Nathan, are you giving away money because you're desperate for audience?
Obviously not.  However in last year's Edinburgh show I didn't even break even on my flyerer.  Give me a break.
So why are you doing it?
I'm talking about generosity in the stand-up.  And in the film it's been fascinating seeing what happens when you just give money away in the street.  Some people have been delighted, other angry.
Angry?
Yep, a few times people have barked 'You should be giving it to charity'.  I've then said, 'But you could give it to charity'.  That made them more angry.  Anyway, profits from the shows will be going to charity.
Profits?
I'm encouraging people to be generous, that's the point.  Off the back of the idea, lots of people and companies have given me free stuff meaning I'm doing Edinburgh for virtually nothing - I've got free accomodation, venues, travel with Virgin Trains, poster design, poster distribution with City Posters.  I've spent a year giving money away and actually I've ended up in profit.
Eh?
Stop asking questions and come and see the shows.  Anyway - who are you?  Aren't you just Nathan writing this?
Yep.

Here's the trailer for the film
